Mythbusting Alabama's prison crisis: Will our state ever honestly address this madness?

Everyone knows Alabama prisons are rampant with abuse, violence, sexual assault and terrible conditions: the Department of Justice (DOJ), Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Commissioner Jeff Dunn, lawmakers, advocates, but most of all, the people serving time in these disgraceful institutions.
Yet once again, our elected leaders have failed to pass any significant reforms that will reduce Alabama’s addiction to incarceration.
